MTD Checker and Complete pack by Regulatory Bridge. Last updated 6 November 2026.
The key points
- The checker and the Complete pack give you information, not tax advice. We are not your accountant or tax agent and we don't deal with HMRC for you.
- Your free result depends on the answers you give. Please check them carefully.
- The Complete pack is the same for everyone. It is not tailored to your answers.
- HMRC's answer always wins. Confirm your position with HMRC.
- You stay responsible for your own tax affairs, deadlines and payments. We never promise you'll avoid penalties.
- The pack is a digital download, so there are no refunds if you change your mind. Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.

1. Who we are
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Regulatory Bridge, which runs regulatory-bridge.com. "You" means the person using the checker or buying the Complete pack.
We are not part of, approved by or connected with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) or any government body.
2. These terms
These terms apply when you use the MTD Checker and when you buy the Complete pack. By using the checker or buying the pack, you agree to them. Please read them before you buy. You can save or print this page.
Our services are designed for individuals aged 18 or over who are UK landlords or sole traders.
3. What we provide
The free checker asks you questions and shows a result about whether and when Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD) may apply to you, based on HMRC's published guidance. You can download a summary of your answers and your key dates for free.
The Complete pack is downloadable digital content. It includes a record spreadsheet, a dated calendar, a plain-English guide to common MTD mistakes and a software checklist, as described on our website when you buy. The pack is the same for everyone and is not built from or tailored to your answers.
It is a self-serve product. We do not:
- act as your tax agent or adviser, or contact HMRC on your behalf;
- sign you up for MTD, send quarterly updates or file tax returns;
- keep, review or check your records or figures;
- review your personal tax position, or tell you how much tax you owe.
4. Information, not tax advice
The checker and the pack give general information about HMRC's published rules. They are not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice, and they don't create an adviser and client relationship.
HMRC decides whether and when MTD applies to you. If anything from HMRC, including its letters, your HMRC online account or HMRC's own checker, differs from your result or the pack, follow HMRC. Where HMRC's guidance doesn't cover your situation, we tell you to contact HMRC. If you are unsure, speak to HMRC or a qualified tax adviser.
Some situations have different MTD rules or exemptions. If your answers show one of them, the checker will send you to HMRC and won't offer you the pack.
5. Your answers and your responsibilities
Your result is only as accurate as your answers. We don't check your answers against your tax return or HMRC's records. You are responsible for:
- giving complete and accurate answers, using the figures and boxes the checker asks for;
- checking your answers on the "Check your answers" screen before you see your result;
- confirming your position with HMRC;
- your own tax affairs, including signing up, choosing software, keeping records, sending updates, filing returns and paying tax on time;
- telling HMRC about changes in your circumstances.
If your circumstances change, your result may no longer apply. You can run the checker again for free.
6. How we keep the rules up to date
We base the checker and the pack on HMRC's guidance published on GOV.UK. Each result shows the date we last checked the rules. We aim to recheck them at least every three months and when HMRC announces changes.
Tax rules and HMRC guidance can change at any time. We take reasonable care to keep our content accurate, but we can't promise it reflects every change on the day it happens.
7. The free checker
The free checker is provided as it is, free of charge, for general information. We may change, suspend or withdraw it at any time. As it's free, and to the extent the law allows, we have no responsibility for loss caused by using it, except as set out in section 15.
8. Buying the Complete pack
Price. The price is shown in pounds sterling on our website at the time you buy and includes any VAT that applies.
Payment. Payments are handled by Payhip and its payment providers. We never see or store your full card details.
Our contract with you. Our contract starts when Payhip confirms your order. We may cancel an order and refund you in full if the price shown was clearly wrong because of an error, or if we reasonably suspect fraud or misuse.
9. Getting your pack
You can download the pack straight after paying. Payhip also emails you a download link. If you can't find it, check your spam folder, then reply to your Payhip order email.
Please keep your own copy of the files.
10. Cancelling and refunds
Your legal right to cancel. If you are a consumer, you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content. Because the pack is made available straight away, before you buy we ask you to agree to receive it immediately and to confirm you understand that you lose this 14-day right once you download it.
No refunds for change of mind. Once you have downloaded the pack, we don't give refunds if you change your mind or no longer need it. This doesn't affect your rights if the pack is faulty or not as described (section 11).
11. If something is wrong with your pack
If you are a consumer, the law says digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If your pack is faulty or not as described, reply to your Payhip order email and we'll fix or replace it. If we can't, or it's not done within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to some or all of your money back.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. For more information, contact Citizens Advice.
12. Rule changes
The pack is based on HMRC's rules on the date shown in it. It doesn't include updates. HMRC can change its rules at any time, so keep an eye on GOV.UK and any letters from HMRC.
13. Software and links
HMRC does not approve or recommend any software, and neither do we. We don't earn commission from software providers. Software providers set their own prices, features and terms, so check them with the provider before you buy.
We are not responsible for third-party software, websites or services, including GOV.UK, HMRC's systems and Payhip.
14. How you can use your pack
We own the checker, the pack, its templates and the content on our website. When you buy the pack, you may use it for your own tax affairs and share it with your own accountant or adviser.
You may not copy, sell, resell, publish or share the pack or its templates with others, or use them to provide services to other people.
15. Our responsibility for loss
What we're responsible for. If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that.
What we're not responsible for. We are not responsible for:
- tax you owe, because you would owe it anyway;
- penalties, interest or other charges caused by wrong or incomplete answers, by missing a deadline, or by not checking your position with HMRC;
- decisions, delays or errors by HMRC, software providers, Payhip or other third parties;
- loss that was not foreseeable;
- loss caused by events outside our control (section 16).
If you buy for your business. If you use the checker or the pack in the course of a business, including as a sole trader or landlord running a business, we are not responsible for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the price you paid.
What we never limit. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for damage to your device caused by faulty digital content we supplied, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit, including your legal rights as a consumer.
16. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as internet or hosting outages, failures by Payhip or payment providers, or HMRC system problems.
17. Your personal information
The checker runs in your browser. Your answers and figures are not sent to us or stored by us. If you download your answers or calendar, the file is created on your own device.
When you buy the pack, Payhip collects the details needed to take your payment and deliver the pack, under its own privacy policy. We may use simple website analytics that count page visits and button clicks, without your answers or figures.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information and your rights under UK data protection law.
18. Questions and complaints
For anything about an order or a complaint, reply to your Payhip order email. We aim to reply within 5 working days and to resolve complaints within 14 days. For data protection requests, follow our privacy policy.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or our services. The terms that apply to your purchase are the ones shown when you bought. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed.
20. Other important terms
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another business. We'll make sure this doesn't reduce your rights.
- You may only transfer your rights to someone else with our written agreement.
- Nobody else has any rights under these terms.
- If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms, together with the pack description at the time you buy, are the whole agreement between us about the checker and the pack.
21. Which laws apply
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts there. Nothing here takes away any legal protection you have as a consumer in the place you live.

1. What information do we collect?
In short: we collect personal information you give us, and order details when you buy through Payhip.
MTD Checker
The MTD Checker runs entirely in your browser. Your answers and figures are not sent to us, saved by us or shared with anyone. When you close or reload the page, they are gone. If you download your answers or calendar, the file is created on your own device. The checker doesn't ask for your name or email address and doesn't set cookies.
Information you give us
We collect personal information you give us when you show interest in our Services, take part in activities on the Services, or get in touch with us. This may include your name, email address and the content of your message.
Payment and delivery data
If you buy a digital product from us, such as the Complete pack, payment and delivery are handled by Payhip. You check out on Payhip, and Payhip and its payment providers collect the details needed to take your payment and deliver your purchase, such as your name, email address, billing country and payment details. Payhip also emails you your receipt and download link. Payhip handles this information under its own privacy policy, available on payhip.com.
Payhip shares your order details with us: your name, email address, what you bought, the price and the date. We never see or store your full card details.
Website analytics
We may use simple website analytics that count page visits and button clicks, such as how many people start the MTD Checker. These counts never include your checker answers or figures.
Sensitive information
We do not process sensitive personal information.
All personal information you give us must be true, complete and accurate, and you should tell us about any changes.
2. How do we process your information?
In short: we process your information to provide and improve our Services, to communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with the law.
- To deliver and support your purchase, including handling refunds and questions about your order.
- To respond to your messages and provide the Services you ask for.
- To keep business and tax records that the law requires.
- To understand how our website is used through simple analytics, so we can improve it.
- To prevent fraud and misuse of our Services.
- To protect someone's vital interests, such as to prevent harm.
We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.
3. What legal bases do we rely on to process your information?
In short: we only process your personal information when we have a valid legal reason under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.
- Performance of a contract. To deliver a product you bought and handle your order, refunds and questions.
- Legal obligations. To keep business and tax records, and to cooperate with authorities where the law requires.
- Legitimate interests. To understand how our website is used and to prevent fraud, where these interests aren't outweighed by your rights.
- Consent. Where you've given us permission for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Vital interests. To protect your vital interests or those of another person, such as where there is a potential threat to someone's safety.
4. When and with whom do we share your personal information?
In short: only with the service providers who help us run our Services, and where the law requires it.
- Payhip and its payment providers, who take payments and deliver digital products for us.
- Website hosting and analytics providers, who help us run and understand our website.
- Authorities, where the law requires us to share information.
- Business transfers. We may share or transfer information in connection with a merger, sale of company assets, financing or acquisition of all or part of our business.
Some providers may process information outside the UK or EEA. Where they do, they use their own legal safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses. We don't sell or rent your personal information.
5. How long do we keep your information?
In short: only as long as we need it, unless the law requires longer.
We keep order records for as long as we need them for accounting, tax and other legal requirements. We keep other personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes in this notice.
When we no longer need your information, we delete or anonymise it. If that isn't possible, for example because it's in backup archives, we store it securely and isolate it from further use until it can be deleted.
6. Do we collect information from minors?
In short: no.
Our Services are for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from, or market to, anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it promptly.
7. What are your privacy rights?
In short: in some regions, such as the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, you have rights that give you more access to and control over your personal information.
These may include the right to:
- access and get a copy of your personal information;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- not be subject to automated decision-making.
Because the MTD Checker never sends your answers to us, we hold no information about your checker use. If you bought from us, we hold only the order details Payhip shares with us.
Withdrawing your consent. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This won't affect processing that happened before you withdrew it, or processing based on other legal grounds.
Complaints. If you're in the UK and unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to us (see section 10). You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If you're in the EEA, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
What happens after you complain. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, investigate without undue delay, keep you informed and explain the outcome.
8. Controls for Do-Not-Track features
Most web browsers include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") setting. No uniform standard for recognising DNT signals has been finalised, so we don't currently respond to them. If a standard is adopted that we must follow, we will update this notice.
9. Do we make updates to this notice?
In short: yes, as needed to stay compliant with the law.
We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make material changes, we may post a notice of the changes on our website. Please review this notice regularly.
10. How can you reach us about this notice?
- About an order: reply to your Payhip order email.
- For a privacy request or complaint: use our data request form.
11. How can you review, update or delete the data we collect from you?
Depending on the laws of your country, you may have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, details of how we've processed it, to correct inaccuracies or to delete it. You may also withdraw your consent to our processing. To make a request, use our data request form. These rights may be limited in some circumstances by law.
